Tobacco Smoke VS Smoke of Diesel Engines

Every day we are always interacting with the smoke, which we know is not good for our health and causes cancer. But do we ever think, if we find that the smoke is very dangerous is actually produced by people around us? A study in Tobacco Control magazine, published by the British Medical Journal, also showed that air pollution due to cigarette smoke in enclosed places 15 times greater than in the open.

Experiments carried out in a garage in the town of Chiavenna, northern Italy, regions which have low levels of pollutants. Pollutants contained in smoke is the most hazardous compounds in air pollution, the gas can come from a variety of sources, including cigarettes and the flue gas pipe. Contaminants that can cause various types of dangerous diseases, such as emphysema, pneumonia, asthma, and cancer.

The researchers chose the garage as the place of the hearing, because the size is similar to office space in some places. They said that the research should get more attention because the results of the experiment, it also shows the adverse effects of cigarette smoke to not smoke. In the experiment, the car brand Ford Mondeo diesel engine with a capacity of two liters of fuel is turned on for 30 minutes in a garage with the garage door closed and six small vents are left open.

They then compare the result with the smoke from three cigarettes lit for 30 minutes in the same garage with the same condition. An analysis tool used to measure pollutant levels of pollutants in the experiment every two minutes. The researchers also found that when a cigarette ignited the amount of pollutant particles 15 times higher than outdoors, whereas the amount of pollutants when the diesel engine is turned on only about two times greater than the outside situation.
